Lustigman Discusses Google and the Right to be Forgotten on Arise News
Advertising Partner Andrew Lustigman was interviewed on Arise News’ program "AriseReview,” an hour-long public affairs show airing in Europe, Africa and in D.C. on the MHZ network. He discussed the non-appealable decision recently made by the highest court in the European Union, that Google must, in some cases, honor requests from its search engine users to delete links to personal information. Lustigman pointed out that forcing search engines to de-link is straightforward in cases of copyright infringement or offensive material, but these requests will be more challenging for Google to take on when coming from the general public. He goes on to explain that while there is no comparative law in the United States, due to its right to free speech, the decision will strengthen the EU’s right to be forgotten, and other countries could certainly follow the EU’s example.
