Insightia and Olshan Reveal Latest Shareholder Activism Trends in The Activist Investing Half-Year Review 2022
Insightia issued The Activist Investing Half-Year Review 2022 in collaboration with Olshan’s Shareholder Activism Practice Group. The review highlights major news and trends shaping shareholder activism during the first six months of 2022, ESG issues, the rise of shareholder activism post-pandemic, and statistics on activist campaigns during the 2022 proxy season. Andrew Freedman, Co-Chair of the Shareholder Activism practice, contributed expert commentary to the review by lending unique firsthand insight into the current shareholder activist trends that have taken shape during these dynamic times. The Foreword examines increased environmental-focused shareholder activism, universal proxy’s potential to spring launch a whole new range of activist campaigns from non-activist institutions, the impact new 13D filing deadlines will have on campaigns, and the spread of shareholder activism into Europe and Asia. Andy noted that “the number of new campaigns launched in 2022 made the first half of the year the busiest on record in recent times.” The review also features an in-depth interview with Shareholder Activist partner Ryan Nebel for the Q&A feature. Ryan spoke on the following: market volatility and the impact it has on shareholder activism, environmental and social issues, “celebrity activism,” the SEC’s proposal for shortening the window of 13D filings, and the new universal proxy card rules coming into effect.
