Olshan litigation counsel Katherine Mateo authored an article in Law360 (subscription required) titled “Racing Corvettes Makes Me A Better Lawyer.” In the article, Kat shares how her hobby of racing Corvettes through the streets of New York also drives her passion for practicing law. Kat, who grew up in the Bronx, compares the adrenaline of high-speed driving to the thrill of legal practice. “Racing Corvettes has undoubtedly made me a better lawyer because driving, like practicing law, requires precision, awareness of your surroundings, and a good set of brakes, complete with the wisdom to know how and when to use them,” she writes. “Utilizing precision in litigation is critical because often clients provide a significant amount of information regarding their issues. Being able to triage and prioritize the most relevant facts and issues, so that you can efficiently chart a path forward, is what separates good lawyers from great lawyers.” Kat shares that her road-tested skills include remaining aware of one’s surroundings and understanding the interests of all stakeholders when it comes to advising her clients.
