Unpaid Interns To Be Protected Under NYC Discrimination Law

The New York City Council has voted to amend the NYC Human Rights law to specifically provide unpaid interns with the same workplace protections as paid employees in New York City. The amendment to the law prohibits employers from discriminating against unpaid interns on the basis of age, race, creed, color, national origin, sex, disability, marital status, partnership status, sexual orientation, citizenship status or status as a victim of domestic violence, sex offenses or stalking.
